A PRACTICAL APPROACH TO GUITAR INSTRUCTION

Most, if not all music instruction for guitar, is based on notation sight reading and basic chord forms. While this is useful and necessary to learn, it does little to expose serious guitar students to situations they will encounter as working musicians, and does not provide them with the background and experience they will need to help them become successful in the music business.

Real World Guitar Instruction is a teaching method designed to expose students to, and prepare them for situations they will encounter in actual working situations in the music world.

With the RWG method, the student will learn about the workings of the guitar and related equipment. Students will be taught notation and rhythm figure sight reading and music theory, the theory of chord construction and chord progressions, along with guidance in appearance and actions in live performance and recording studio situations, to include having and maintaining proper equipment. Students will also receive instruction in using the “Nashville Number System”, a method of music notation which is widely used both in recording and live performance. Students will also learn to play in small ensemble situations with other students if they so desire. Instruction in recording techniques will be given, and when students reach the proficiency level to do so, will be given the opportunity to record some of their performances individually or with other musicians.

Also, while Real World Guitar is designed for people who may be thinking of a career in music, RWG welcomes those students who just want to have fun playing guitar, and are looking for a little help to get them started. The extent to which a student wants to get involved in instruction is completely up to each individual.

Whether your interest is to become a professional working musician, or just learn some chords to sing and play music with your friends, Real World Guitar Instruction is here to help you
